SUMMARY:Introduction to Community-based Natural Flood Management – online training
DESCRIPTION:Thames21 have been installing Natural Flood Management (NFM) features in four areas around London\, Enfield\, Harrow\, Hillingdon and Havering. These innovative NFM projects are designed to reduce flood risk downstream and is also contributing to national flood management data. \nOverview \nThis training will introduce local people to how Natural Flood Management works and how they can get involved with monitoring and maintaining NFM features at these different sites.\nIf you are curious about NFM and would like to get involved with other local residents in supporting this project we encourage you to join us for both an online and practical session.\nPlease note: practical sessions will be planned once we are able to run outdoor public events again. \nIntroduction to Natural Flood Management – ONLINE\nThis session will cover: \n\nessential theory behind Natural Flood Management\,\nunderstanding flood risk\nthe NFM work Thames21 is undertaking around London.\n\nMore details including a Zoom meeting link and an exact meeting location for the on site session can be emailed nearer the time. \nCurrent dates: \nWednesday 10th March: 10am – 12noon \nBook here: https://www.thames21.org.uk/event/introduction-to-community-based-natural-flood-management-online-training-4/\n  \nPractical Natural Flood Management –\nWoody debris dam building and monitoring – IN PERSON\nTogether we will: \n\nwalk the stretch of river to learn about the project and why features called leaky woody dams were installed\nbuild new dams or maintain existing dams based on the plan for the site\nobserve how the leaky woody dams are functioning and use the Slow Flow Catcher app to monitor the impact of the dams\n\nDates to be confirmed – people who attend the online session will be contacted once dates are available. \nAll equipment will be provided\nYou will be sent a meeting location and a link to download the survey app in advance of the practical session\nPlease wear clothing suitable for being outside for the duration of the event. \nPlease register for an online and practical session using the form below.
