SUMMARY:Protecting greenspaces and natural heritage sites
DESCRIPTION:\n\n\n\nJoin us to discover the range of powers that can be used to protect the broader benefits of green spaces and heritage sites.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this Event\n\n\nGreen spaces and heritage sites are community assets and need preserving! \nMany neighbourhood groups such as Residents Associations and Friends groups already influence how their green spaces and heritage sites are used and managed. \nJoin us to discover the range of powers that can be used to protect the broader benefits of green spaces and heritage sites and find out how many of them can be directed\, managed and owned by communities. \nLocality is working with the Land of the Fanns to offer two workshops to empower communities to get involved in protecting their valuable natural resource\, to include: \n\nCommunity assets and how to protect them\nUsing Neighbourhood Plans to protect green space\nPractical examples\nLaunch of Toolkit: Guidance for Communities on How to Protect Green Space and Heritage Sites\n\nBook here\n10am – 1pm Thursday 10th September \nLocation: Zoom \nFor further information or to discuss the workshops\, please contact Charlotte Stannard on 07917 709418 or on charlotte.stannard@locality.org.uk \n\n  \nThe Land of the Fanns is able to offer the workshops run by Locality as it has received a grant from a partnership between Co-op’s charity\, the Co-op Foundation\, and the Department for Digital\, Culture\, Media and Sport. The ‘Space to Connect’ funding will be used to deliver community workshops to locate and record local heritage sites and valued green spaces\, discuss how best to use them and give them better protection for the future. Space to Connect was launched in June 2019\, at the same time as Co-op’s Endangered Spaces campaign to protect\, support and improve 2\,000 community spaces by 2022. \nThe Land of the Fanns is one of 57 organisations across England to receive a grant from the £1.6 million partnership\, designed to help communities tackle loneliness by improving and protecting local spaces that bring people together. Space to Connect follows commitments made in the Government’s Civil Society and Loneliness Strategies\, published in 2018\, to help create sustainable community hubs and spaces where they are most needed. Funding also builds on the Co-op Foundation’s work to strengthen community spaces where people can connect and co-operate. \n\nPhoto Credit: John Taylor \n\n\n
