DESCRIPTION:Land of the Fanns 100 Stories\nWalk 1: Wooded Hills to the Ingrebourne Valley \nLinear Walk\nTuesday 28th May 2019 \nBook a place here. \nIntroduction\nThis walk is part of the Land of the Fanns ‘Community Mapping – 100 Stories project’ led by Kinetika\, which\, with local communities\, will identify and celebrate 100 stories gathered in response to the Land of the Fanns landscape areas\, and make 100 silk flags using Kinetika’s batik silk painting process. The project will culminate in a 100 Stories Walking/Arts festival in Summer 2020. \nThe walk route has been devised by local volunteers to inspire stories\, memories and responses and during the walk we invite you to do any or all of the following \n\nEnjoy the walk\, meet people\, connect with Land of the Fanns and get to know the area if you are new to it\nThink about your personal connections to the landscape en route\nShare stories about the area\nCapture stories or themes through informal writing and drawing activities\nRecord the experience through taking photos on smart phones or cameras\n\nWalk description\nThe walk starts at Bedfords Park Visitor Centre where there will be an introduction to the Community Mapping project by Kinetika.  The walk then begins with a tour of the Bedfords Park Walled Garden with Lois Amos (Secretary\, Friends of Bedfords Park)\, then joins the London Loop at Havering-atte-Bower where spectacular views across London can be seen. \nPassing The Deer’s Rest (recently renamed from The Bear Pub)\, here the walk can be split and you can either join or leave hear around 12:30pm\,  the route continues to Dagnam Park\, or The Manor\, as it is locally known. This site covers 345 acres of open fields\, scrubland and forests and 25 ponds\, a large herd of deer and the remains of the demolished Dagnam’s Manor House. After stopping here for a picnic lunch the walk then continues south towards Pages Wood\, passing through Harold Court Woods. Here Simon Elgar (Forestry England) will give a tour of Pages Wood including the new woodland and wetland nature trail which follows the Ingrebourne River.  The walk will finish with a summary from Kinetika at Harold Wood Cricket Club. \n\nRegistration for walk: 9:45 am\nWalk starts: 10:00am\nMeet: Bedfords Park Visitor Centre\nWalk ends: 3:30 pm\nEnds: Harold Wood Cricket Club\n\n  \n\nDuration: 5.5 hours. (Walking for 3-4 hours)\nDistance: 7.5 miles\nGrading: Moderate\nWalk leaders: Ian Seabrook.\nBedfords Park: Lois Amos\, Pages Wood: Simon Elgar\n\nParking\nFree Parking at Bedfords Park\, Pages Wood and Harold Wood Park \nTrain stations\nTrain station at the start: Romford (RM1 1TU)\, Gidea Park (RM2 6BX) or Harold Wood (RM3 0DA) approximately 3 mile walk to Bedfords Park.\nThe nearest train station at the end of the walk: Harold Wood (RM3 0DA) approximately 0.7 mile walk from Harold Wood Cricket Club. \nBuses\n375 from Romford to Havering atte Bower; 256 between Harold Hill and Hornchurch via Harold Wood; 294 between Havering Park and Harold Hill via Romford\, Gidea Park and Harold Wood \nAccessibility\nThese walks are of different lengths and on different terrain. Some are mainly on footpaths\, and other mainly on footpaths where ground may be uneven. \nThis walk is not suitable for wheelchairs. \nAbout the Land of the Fanns Community Mapping Project: 100 Stories\nThe 100 Stories programme will work with local communities and individuals of all ages across the Land of the Fanns area to identify and celebrate 100 stories gathered in response to the Land of the Fanns landscape areas\, and make 100 silk flags using Kinetika’s batik silk painting process. The project will culminate in a 100 Stories Walking/Arts festival in Summer 2020. Alongside the community mapping and arts festival will be a creative skills training programme including interpreting the landscape through art\, creative writing\, filming\, photography and walk leader training. \n \nPlease note: \nYou need to choose walks within your capabilities; the walk leaders are experienced but must take your word that you are sufficiently fit for the grade of walk you have chosen. \nWalk leaders will be at the start of the walk regardless of the weather. In the unlikely event of any unforeseen circumstances\, Land of the Fanns and Kinetika reserve the right to change or cancel a walk and/or performance. Please check the website www.landofthefanns.org regularly for any updates or follow us on Twitter  or Facebook. . \nPlease ensure that you are properly equipped for all walks. The weather can be unpredictable so bring waterproof clothing and/or sun hats and sun cream – it’s best to be prepared for everything! \nWalking boots/shoes are recommended\, but otherwise please wear suitable and comfortable footwear- best to leave open-toe sandals or high heels at home. \nMake sure you bring a packed lunch\, if necessary\, and plenty to drink. \nDue care has been exercised in organising the walks\, however Kinetika\, the funders and associated partners of the project cannot accept liability for loss\, accident or injury caused to any person following the routes. \nWe will be taking photographs and video of this event to promote and celebrate the project in print and online. As part of our project with Land of the Fanns to enhance the River Rom and River Ingrebourne we are providing fully funded training to local residents and other people who are keen to gain the practical skills and confidence to be River Keepers in their own area. \nThis course only takes place at Millennium Centre\, Dagenham\, RM7 0SS on Saturday 11th and Saturday 18th May. \nClick here to register for this fully funded course.\nAttending both Day 1 and Day 2 is required for the accreditation which will enable you to lead events under Thames21’s Public Liability Insurance. \nThere is no obligation to run events once you have taken this course. Many people take it simply for the learning experience. But others do go on to lead their own events with our support. Our trainees have been involved in some exciting projects over the years! \nLeading a Clean Up is much more than picking up litter. \nOn Day 1 – Saturday 11th May \nyou will build the knowledge\, confidence and skills to lead safe\, effective and fun waterway improvement events. You will learn to look out for what tasks a group of volunteers can do which will really make a difference. \nBy the end of Day 1\, you will be able to plan your own event and show that you can select an appropriate site\, spot hazards\, ensure health and safety\, organise tasks and equipment and publicise your event. \nOn Day 2 – Saturday 18th May \nwe will look at leadership responsibilities and focus on how to deliver a welcome/health and safety briefing. DESCRIPTION:PLEASE HELP SURVEY OUTFALLS ON THE RIVERS ROM/BEAM \nPollution can find its way into urban rivers via surface water outfalls (drains) as a result of misconnected plumbing. \nZSL and the Land of the Fanns are looking for volunteers to help conduct Outfall Safari surveys along the Rivers Rom and Beam. This involves surveying stretches of the river to map and record the impact of outfalls with the help of a mobile app.\nThe surveys will take place during: April 2019 \nAs a volunteer\, you can choose which stretch of river to survey and conduct the survey at a time that is convenient to you\, within the survey period of April 2019. Where possible the survey will be conducted from the footpath by the side of the river but\, in parts\, it may be necessary to walk in the river where it is safe to do so. DESCRIPTION:Join Thames Chase for a guided circular walk around the Oakwood and Ash Plantation and Belhus Woods Country Park \nMeet at Belhus Park Leisure Centre car park at 10am. \nFrom the Belhus Leisure Centre car park we cross the M25 and walk to the Oakwood and Ash Plantation which were part of the original landscaped gardens of Belhus House designed by Capability Brown. There are 2 woodland areas separated by a stretch of water called the Long Pond. We will also see the remains of the ‘Ice House’. \nThen we cross the M25 over the pedestrian bridge and loop around Belhus Woods Country Park and Belhus Chase. Together they comprise around 450 acres of ancient woodlands\, meadows and lakes. There is also a visitor centre with café and toilets. \nThe walk is around 5 miles and can be muddy in places after prolonged rainfall. DESCRIPTION:Enter our photography competition for amateur photographers for your chance to win one of three prizes in vouchers (1st prize £100\, 2nd prize £50\, 3rd prize £25). Pictures from the competition will be used in the LotF marketing\, social media and website. \nSend us your photos from around the Land of the Fanns using the following ideas for inspiration: \n\nLandscape\nBuildings/Heritage\nCommunity\nPlaces special to you\n\nSend your picture\, which must be at least 1Mb in size\, along with a brief description\, your name\, address\, telephone number\, the date and location of the photo to landofthefanns@thameschase.org.uk by 30th September 2018. \n  \n \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \nThe Land of the Fanns is an intricate landscape\, full of surprises and ‘hidden gems’ which straddles the London – Essex boundary and encompasses significant parts of Havering\, Thurrock\, Barking & Dagenham and Brentwood. \nWe are looking for photographs which capture the essence of the area\, the landscape\, heritage and the community. \nLook out for more rounds in the future! \n  \nEntry Rules  \n\nEntrants can submit up to 3 photos per round. Age to be advised if under 16.\nCopyright for all images will remain with the respective entrants.\nThe photographer should agree\, unconditionally\, that the photographs submitted may be exhibited and that the Land of the Fanns\, Heritage Lottery Fund and partners may reproduce any of the images for the purposes of promotion\, marketing\, discussion and education\, including publications\, postcards\, posters\, the internet etc.\nThe photographer will be credited for the use of their work.\nA statement must be issued to say that the entry is the photographer’s own work.\nEach entry must state when and where the photo was taken.\nPhotos can be black and white or colour.\nImages must be provided as a digital file initially\, at least 1Mb in size (if you have a newish phone or camera this should not be a concern. SUMMARY:Thames Chase Guided Walk to Havering Country Park
DESCRIPTION:Join Thames Chase for a guided walk to Havering County Park from Bedfords Park. \nHavering Country Park is over 100 acres of mixed woodlands and meadows and is famous for its avenue of Wellingtonia trees (Giant Redwoods). The park was formerly part of the Havering Palace estate\, a royal residence until the 17th century. \nBedfords Park is a local nature reserve with over 200 acres of mature woodlands and meadows. There are wonderful views across Havering to London. The park has a herd of red deer and a herd of Red Poll cattle to help manage the meadows. There is a walled garden and an Essex Wildlife Trust visitor centre. \nThe walk is around 4.5 miles and can be muddy in places after prolonged rainfall. Sturdy walking shoes or boots are recommended. \nDate: Friday 28th September 2018\nTime: 10:00am – 12:30pm\nPrice: £3 donation to Thames Chase Trust\nLocation: Meet at Bedfords Park Visitor Centre at 10am \nRaising funds for Thames Chase Community Forest (charity no. 1115627)
