SUMMARY:River Rom Project - Volunteering Event
DESCRIPTION:Join Thames21 and the Land of the Fanns on an event to celebrate the completion of the Wetland Habitat Creation and Restoration Project. \nThe event will provide an opportunity to see and hear about how the project was developed and the main lessons learnt\, as well as to look closely at the benefits of a scheme such as this. \nOn the day we will WADE a section of the river Rom\, to check the recently installed Large Wood deflectors and will also be PLANTING some semi-aquatic vegetation around the wetlands. \nThames21 has been entrusted by the Land of the Fanns (LotF) Landscape Partnership Scheme\, financed by the National Lottery Heritage Fund\, to work with partners to develop and implement a freshwater habitat creation and floodplain restoration scheme within the river Rom valley. \nThese newly created wetland scrapes will provide food sources and habitat\, improve water quality\, increase flood storage\, and will improve the aesthetics\, creating more opportunities for recreation. \nJoin us to learn more! \nContact: \ncarolina.pinto@thames21.org.uk \n07824491166

DESCRIPTION:Meeting Point- Eastbrookend Discovery Centre Car Park- RM7 0SS \nJoin Thames21\, LBBD Rangers and Thames Chase Trust in making a difference in your local community by helping us pick litter along the River Rom. We are calling for volunteers of all ages (parental supervision required for under 16’s) to help us to actively improve the river Rom. \nThis is part of the Rewild London funded initiative called The Chase LNR River\, Wetland & Meadow Restoration and Creation Project. \nThames21 has been entrusted by London Borough of Barking and Dagenham funded by the GLA’s Rewild London Fund to deliver a wetland restoration/enhancement strategy for the River Rom floodplain and associated green spaces. This part of the project (Phase 2) has been conceptualised and developed as part of of the Land of the Fanns Partnership Scheme (LotFs). \n \nApart from intercepting and treating pollution\, wetlands have multiple benefits including slowing the flow of flood water thereby helping to protect properties from flooding. By storing water for longer\, wetlands can help to mitigate the impact of droughts\, as they help channel water to underground water supplies (aquifers) – although more research is needed to evidence this. DESCRIPTION:Meeting point: Tyler’s Wood car park\, off Warley Road CM13 3JA\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSaturday 2 July 2022 10.00am\nDistance approx 4.8 miles\n\nThis is a varied walk that takes you across the M25 into Great Warley on the outskirts of Brentwood. We pass through farmland\, lanes and woodland. The church of St Mary the Virgin is going to be open especially for us. This is a Grade 1 listed church building which has a beautiful Arts and Crafts and Art Nouveau interior.\n\nThe walk follows the route of leaflet No 14 and additions to the walk and other sites of interest will be suggested on the way. SUMMARY:Historic Havering by Vintage Bus
DESCRIPTION:The Land of the Fanns has run two previous DiscoverME trips and is now able to offer people the opportunity to join another day of discovery in a special Historic Havering tour. Fans of vintage transport and lovers of history will not want to miss the event which takes place on Saturday 9 July and will see passengers travelling in style in a 1950’s single decker bus.  \n Beginning at the Thames Chase Forest Centre at 10am\, the Historic Havering round trip visits five properties to reveal their history and connections to the landscape. Those properties are the Old Chapel built in 1800 as a Protestant Dissenters Chapel\, Upminster Windmill dating from 1803 and one of the best remaining English smock mills\, Havering Museum housed in the old Romford Brewery and the 15th century Tithe Barn in Upminster.
