SUMMARY:Introduction to Community-based Natural Flood Management – online training
DESCRIPTION:Thames21 have been installing Natural Flood Management (NFM) features in four areas around London\, Enfield\, Harrow\, Hillingdon and Havering. These innovative NFM projects are designed to reduce flood risk downstream and is also contributing to national flood management data. \nOverview \nThis training will introduce local people to how Natural Flood Management works and how they can get involved with monitoring and maintaining NFM features at these different sites.\nIf you are curious about NFM and would like to get involved with other local residents in supporting this project we encourage you to join us for both an online and practical session.\nPlease note: practical sessions will be planned once we are able to run outdoor public events again. \nIntroduction to Natural Flood Management – ONLINE\nThis session will cover: \n\nessential theory behind Natural Flood Management\,\nunderstanding flood risk\nthe NFM work Thames21 is undertaking around London.\n\nMore details including a Zoom meeting link and an exact meeting location for the on site session can be emailed nearer the time. \nCurrent dates: \nWednesday 10th March: 10am – 12noon \nBook here: https://www.thames21.org.uk/event/introduction-to-community-based-natural-flood-management-online-training-4/\n  \nPractical Natural Flood Management –\nWoody debris dam building and monitoring – IN PERSON\nTogether we will: \n\nwalk the stretch of river to learn about the project and why features called leaky woody dams were installed\nbuild new dams or maintain existing dams based on the plan for the site\nobserve how the leaky woody dams are functioning and use the Slow Flow Catcher app to monitor the impact of the dams\n\nDates to be confirmed – people who attend the online session will be contacted once dates are available. \nAll equipment will be provided\nYou will be sent a meeting location and a link to download the survey app in advance of the practical session\nPlease wear clothing suitable for being outside for the duration of the event. \nPlease register for an online and practical session using the form below. SUMMARY:Land of the Fanns Model Building Competition
DESCRIPTION:0Are you a budding builder?  \nShow off your engineering and creative skills by building a local place in the Land of the Fanns that is special to you with items from inside your home. \nEnter our competition by submitting a photo of your model building for your chance to win one of three prizes. \nThe models can be built from anything you can find in your home\, building blocks\, paper\, crafts\, recycling etc. The model can be of your favourite building\, landscape or hidden gem in your local area. \nExamples from a member of the Land of the Fanns team: \n \nHave you discovered a hidden gem in your local area you may not have visited before lockdown.\nMaybe you’ve taken a regular walk to a local heritage building near your home.\nWhere ever your lockdown travels have been taking you\, we’d love to see it.\nAnd lets share our appreciation of what’s around us. \nThe models will be judged in two categories: \n\nAdults and Young People (12+)\nChildren (11 and below)\n\nSend your photo of your model\, along with a title\, your name\, address\, telephone number and brief description of what/where your model is of to landofthefanns@thameschase.org.uk by Monday 15th March 2021. \nThe Land of the Fanns is an intricate landscape\, full of surprises and ‘hidden gems’ which straddles the London – Essex boundary and encompasses significant parts of Havering\, Thurrock\, Barking & Dagenham and Brentwood. We are looking for models which capture the essence of the area – the landscape\, heritage and the community. \nEntry Rules  \n\nEntrants can submit up to 3 models. Age to be advised if under 16.\nThe creator should agree\, unconditionally\, that the photos of the models submitted may be exhibited and that the Land of the Fanns\, National Lottery Heritage Fund and partners may reproduce any of the films for the purposes of promotion\, marketing\, discussion and education\, including publications\, postcards\, posters\, website\, social media\, etc.\nThe creator is credited for the use of their work.\nA statement must be issued to say that the entry is the creator’s own work.\nEach entry must state when and what the model is based on.\nThe competition is open to all ages and abilities.\nPhotos must be provided as a digital file and sent as an attachment to landofthefanns@thameschase.org.uk.  If the file is too large to be sent over email\, files up to 2gb can be sent via WeTransfer: wetransfer.com
