As we explore Eastbrookend Country Park we will meet some local characters who will tell us about the history of the site. We will get creative\, building habitats for some of the woodland animals and listen out for all the wonderful sounds of the country park. \nOn return to the Discovery Centre\, there will be a chance for everyone to reflect on their hopes and wishes for the future of our landscape. This project culminates in the Tales of the Fanns Arts and Walking Festival\, Saturday 22nd May – Sunday 6th June\, which celebrates the uniqueness of the Land of the Fanns. The walk will explore Bedfords Park including the deer enclosure\, a walk through the woods down to the lake then back up into the wildflower meadow. On arrival at Bedfords Park Walled Garden we will be given a tour of the garden with Lois Amos (Secretary\, Friends of Bedfords Park) and some of their local historical characters before putting our creative skills to practice painting some of the beautiful flowers\, trees and herbs in the garden. The walk then begins with a tour around Little Belhus\, which is an ambitious project to turn 86 hectares of former landfill into a country park. Passing the Zig Zag Bridge the walk continues to Oak and Ash Plantation where remnants of Belhus Manor House can be seen such as the Long Pond\, Belhus House Stench Pipe and Ice House. The walk then loops back to Little Belhus\, passing Little Belhus House on the way. The walk will finish with a summary from the Land of the Fanns team at Little Belhus Country Park. \nAt the end of the session there will be a chance for everyone to reflect on their hopes and wishes for the future of our landscape. SUMMARY:Tales of the Fanns Finale: Langdon Hills Country Park
DESCRIPTION:Land of the Fanns Finale: Langdon Hills\nCircular Walk\, Sunday 6 June \nJoin us for the finale of the Land of the Fanns Walking and Arts festival where you will embark on an adventure as characters and figures from history entertain you along your woodland walk. Meet the fictitious woodsman\, the lively Mrs May and even an informative kingfisher as you’re immersed in history as you twist and turn through Langdon Hills. The walk will culminate in seeing the 100 Land of the Fanns flags made by Kinetika displayed in this beautiful location. The walk is 1.6 miles and will feature 10 stops along the route including character performances by internationally renowned Coco Loco and a visit to The Pollarded Oak\, with a talk from the local rangers. \nYou will be in a group of 30 with 2 walking guides. The walk is outside and will adhere to social distancing. Please bring a face covering for use in public toilets. Meet the fictitious woodsman\, the lively Mrs May and even an informative kingfisher as you’re immersed in history as you twist and turn through Langdon Hills. The walk will culminate in seeing the 100 Land of the Fanns flags made by Kinetika displayed in this beautiful location. The walk is 1.6 miles and will feature 10 stops along the route including character performances by internationally renowned Coco Loco and a visit to The Pollarded Oak\, with a talk from the local rangers. \nYou will be in a group of 30 with 2 walking guides. The walk is outside and will adhere to social distancing. Please bring a face covering for use in public toilets. DESCRIPTION:  \n\nYour River Rom Needs You!\n\n\n\nJoin Thames21 and Land of the Fanns and help remove a very invasive plant\, Himalayan Balsam\, from your local waterway\, the River Rom. \nHimalayan Balsam takes over the riverbanks\, not allowing other species to grow. By helping remove the Himalayan Balsam you will help the health of the River Rom by: \n1. Increasing biodiversity allowing other native plants to grow; \n2. Decreasing soil erosion. Himalayan Balsam is an annual plant which dies back during the autumn. Consequently\, due to its shallow roots\, a large amount of soil erodes into the water and becomes silt. \nThis event is part of the Land of the Fanns\, a programme to undo some of the damage caused by decades of human intervention on an old fen landscape encompassing the London boundary and South Essex. \nAnyone of any age can join\, no experience and no equipment necessary! Empowering communities to upskill and take ownership of their local heritage and green spaces. \nIf you run a place that people visit\, such as an historic house\, a nature reserve or a country park\, and need help understanding your existing or potential visitors\, these workshops are for you.  \nMaybe you would like more people to visit\, or your existing visitors to come more often. Possibly you now have different types of visitors form pre-Covid and are trying to work out how to respond. This workshop is designed to help you work on your own situation and come up with bespoke solutions. \nWe will start with a tried and tested visitor segmentation model to focus on what motivates people to visit places like yours. This highlights four key motivations which are a great tool for understanding the different reasons people do\, or do not\, visit you.
