72. The Beauty of Rainham Hall

A visit to a portal into the past, I am stunned by the beauty of Rainhall Hall, once home to the designer Anthony Denny and next door to the Old Brewhouse, where one could imagine stables adorned with horses. The mahogany staircase stands grand and centre-stage. Hidden secrets lay undiscovered in the heart of this place. Cupboards appear like magic that are treasures, as I am led upstairs into the rooms of Anthony Denny (1913-90) photographer and interior designer, who shot covers for British Vogue, his exhibits displayed within a glass case. Back down to the garden, within it are marble like lanterns. It is an enchanted place where kids can wander and play freely within nature that holds them safe. Through to the cafe, where you can reflect upon the beauty of Rainham Hall. It’s as though the spirits of the past are still here and take you through the house. I wish I could have lived here too, like those who were able to rent a lodge before. Not only is this a museum, it also encapsulates the present, it being the location where the Christmas Carol BBC drama adaptation was filmed recently.
